I have resorted to buying NetNanny for the main computer. It cost mt $60CDN but it was well worth it. Although my reasons were because I kept finding evidence that my son was visiting porn sites, and I felt I needed to stop it before it got out of hand ( ... )

I do have some strong opinions about this, but we dealt with a different type of teenager than just your average run of the mill guy. I still say that because he is not proving you can trust him, I'd pull the reigns back big time. I'd say grounding is in order if lying is being done repeatedly and once that's completed, SERIOUS restrictions on the computer until he shows that he can have integrity in what he does. Yes, you're raising him to make his own decisions, but you're also teaching him the value of integrity, character, and how to respect authority ( ... )

I'm not sure what advice to give; I don't have any children and I honestly don't know what to say.

What does his father have to say about it?

One thing I would say is this--don't let him think he's getting away with lying to you. Whatever you decide to do, if it's let him sink or swim or taking away his computer privileges, make sure he KNOWS you know.

I'm sure MySpace has some kind of thing where you can have your isp blocked from him having an account. I'm not sure if this matters if he can do things on MySpace from elsewhere, but at least it will severely limit him. They must have some system for dealing with irate parents of minors, don't they?

I don't have any kids. But as I have worked with Behavior modification among 14-18 yr olds Best advice I can give is either limit his Computer use... Schools have myspace blockers, so unless he's smart enough to download firefox at school he won't be able to get on through School. The other's probably lowering yourself to his standards but you can always make a page yourself and try to embarrass him by putting baby pictures up in his comment box...

oh, and there's a program that we use called BSafeonline.com. It's in the 50's as far as cost goes, and it works well for us. If it blocks something I don't want blocked, I have it set to where I can just put in my password and forgo the blocking, so it's just a minor inconvenience for me. I encourage you to check it out once he starts using the computer again, or whatever you decided.
