It has been one of those weeks. A few weeks ago I ran the vacuum through the rooms I don't normally use and discovered in two of them, huge drifts of dead ants. We're talking about 6ft long a foot wide and probably about an inch high in places (It was under a bed, I'm not normally that bad ok)
I vacuumed them up, couldn't figure out where they came from and assumed an ant colony had died or something. There are one or two stray live ants around the house, but not a lot.
Last weekend, I look in the room again and the ants are back. So I get to start researching ants on the internet. There are a lot of ants. I discover the Dept of Ag has an ant identification service. I send off some dead ants. Today I hear back.
I have coastal brown ants, but hopefully not for much longer.
Then, on Sunday night. I'm sitting back, watching tv and a mouse runs out from under the tv to under a cupboard. Down go the traps. So far it's mouse 1, me none, but I think it may have eaten an old bait I had, so maybe the score has been evened up.
Finally, I come home from work today and there are a mob of bees under the eves scoping them out. I'm not thinking about it. Hopefully they've moved on by now, the last thing I want is a bee hive by the back door. Further away is ok, but not there.
