I look back on the last happy night we shared together, how we didn't think it would be our last. Just a few months before the night you took your life we were smiling and talking about the changing of the seasons. You laughed at me when I had dived into a small pile of leaves we raked up and laid there as leaves stuck to me. I pulled you down on top of me and kissed you.
"Hey!" I can still see you blushing bright red as you quickly got off of me, your pink hair paling in comparison. I merely laughed at you and sat up while brushing leaves off of me. The next few weeks I noticed how sickly thin you've gotten and started to get worried as you shook more than a normal healthy person would. I kept all thoughts to myself though, scared I wouldn't see you the next day. Little did I know, doing that is what killed you. A few days before your last day on Earth we ended up arguing about your health.
"Tsuzuku, enough! I'm fine really, it's just the medicine the doctors put me on that made me loose weight." I knew you were lying, but that didn't stop me from opening my mouth. "Koichi, look at you! You're practically a skeleton!" I couldn't contain my anger any longer, I had to tell you what I've been scared to that past few months.
After our argument you left and I didn't hear from you until you called me up crying, telling me how much pain you were in and how you couldn't handle the pressure. I tried to coax you out of doing anything, but you said it was to late, and that it was better like this. I rushed to your place and barged in without knocking. "Koichi?!" I frantically looked for you, only to find you in the bathroom on the verge of dying. "Koichi!" I rushed over to you and tried to stop the blood from flowing down your wrists and quickly called for an ambulance. "Koichi, hang in there, it will be alright, I'm here. I'm here. I love you so much Koichi, don't leave me."
The paramedics rushed in and pushed me out as I stared in horror at the scene. They pronounced you dead at least twice in your apartment and once on the way to the hospital. They managed to barely save you and stuck you in some random room as you tried to cling to life, and failed.I stayed by your side until the last second, crying my eyes out. "K-Koichi please come back, please be okay."
Your body was too weak to keep you alive, and in the end they pulled the plug after twelve hours of keeping you on life support. I stared at you blankly as I held your hand until you took your last breath and only then I realized what day it was. Smiling bitterly, I whispered into your ear even though you couldn't hear me anymore. "Happy birthday Koichi, I love you so, so much." I kissed your forehead before they hauled you out of the room in a body bag.
The following years were hard, every winter on your birthday I visit your grave, placing red roses as to let you know I still cared and never forgot you. Oh how I wished you were here to see how much things have changed since you took your life.
