The job hunt has been frustrating. There've been no real results. Seems like they're posting "please don't call us" on apllicatioin pages more and more, so that old practice of following up actually dooms you. And the other I have applied for are dragging their feet or just never reach back.
I am still unsure about MCCC. Sure, I could possible still go back even though they're dropping the ball with my re-application to return to work, but I also am dreading the possibility of my arthritis coming into play. i think i have it under control for the most part. I mean, I don't hurt as much after mascoting at a game and that's typically a very straining job. I guess MCCC isn't being hastey because arthritis is a liability when you're dealing with individuals who might need physical interventions, like supines. If I get hurt or the child gets hurt due to some arthritic related failure on my body during an intervention, it costs them money. It's common practice in any field like that.
So whiile job hunting has been a downer, I've been trying to at least enjoy a few positives.
We debuted the new costume for R Thunder. We did it at our home opener last Saturday and even though his intro was kind of rushed since we had a full schedule of things to kick off during pre-game, people seemed to love his new look. They did eventually play the video we shot on the jumbotron though I didn't see it; I was most likely in the stands or suites by then. At some point, that will get uploaded on his Facebook.
We posted loads of pictures of the bird in action on opening night on his facebook, which really drew some positive attention. His fan base online is slowly growing; it finally doubled his initial 'likes'just yesterday, from 33 to about 74 after a kind shout out from the Hawks main FB page.
It is kind of neat interacting with fans as THunder over FB. It keeps me in character pretty much all of the time. It gives Thunder a voice (since he's otherwise a silent character) so for the first time, Thunder can express what he likes, what he wants to do and talk to fans of all ages. He can even share about his experiences and post pictures from community events he's taken a part in.
Thunder is slowly booking gigs, though many of them aren't taking place until March or even as late as July. It'd be nice if I could book a load of them in February so I can at least get some action and revenue going. I guess I'll have to see whats going on in the city I can get the bird involved in... I am trying to nail down dates for him to appear at the Strong Museum of PLay during the Break in the school calender... though I have NO idea when that actually is. Doh!
And I've totally become sick of the snow already.
