As most of you may know, I own a beautiful 1979 Ford Mustang Fastback, she's my baby and I've done most of the work to get her back up to peak running form. For a while now I've been mulling over what I want to do with her, what direction I want to take her, well shortly after watching 4 hours of WRC rallying I made my choice. She's going to be a TSD (Time Speed Distance) Rally capable car.
The rules for TSD are pretty simple, road legal, insured car and carry the required safety equipment, pretty much any car that runs decently can compete in them, my Maxine should fit right in.
Having made up my mind I set about modifying my little Maxine for her new life.
First, I repaired the rear left quarter panel and other little rust spots, there weren't many so it wasn't too difficult.
Maxine before the repair Once I got the repair done set sat for a while just a normal Mustang.
The first of many modifications came in the form of a pair of old roof racks I found under our cabin over on the island.
Front 3/4 (here you can see the repairs to the quarter panels and hood)
Side They are pretty strong, should be able to support at least 100 lbs, their maiden run saw my Polo boat safely up to SFU for my Canoe Polo practice, they withstood 130 KPH without a problem... Howled like Banshees though...
The next set of modifications is going to include a steel roof basket that will U-bolt to the cross bars of the roof racks and a metal (aluminum) front bumper with bush bar with built in winch plate and tow rings.
I'll keep posting updates here.
Stay frosty,
Tibby
