My favorite author above all is Lloyd Alexander. He wrote the Prydain Cycle (Book of Three, Taran the Wanderer) and the lesser known Westmark series. I think you'd prefer Westmark over Prydain, it's his later work and a much more sophisticated read--For a set of young adult novels. Also, if you can find it, the Arkadians is also excellent. It's a single volume
