Yesterday was... boring. *sigh*
I'm not really a fan of my choral conducting teacher. I think she has the Cauter complex (and go figure, she conducts one of the choirs). Blerg. O yeah, she also likes writing. And because she likes writing, our homework is oft-times writing. I'm seriously sick of that sort of thing.
I mean, I like math, but if I have a music class, I'm probably not going to assign a lot of math-intensive homework (although, to be fair, math is more closely related to music than writing, in my opinion. Examples of this include the tonality ratios between intervals, which affects tuning and intonation, not to mention the sense it brings to chordal structure and why that came about; also, rhythmic divisions and subdivisions are easily related to simple arithmetic, as is the practice of additive rhythms. In fact, without a good math base, it's harder to understand polyrhythmic subdivisions. I could go on and on). Even with how considerably closer to music math is than english, I would still use next to no math-based or math-intensive homework (the exception being if the class were specifically to analyze the functions of music [think: even deeper than music theory], which would intrinsically include math).
Ok, so anyway. I did the whole boring day stuff, told Jenn she could come by to visit after classes (which she did, for a few minutes). But I also got a call from Gina (Anderson), saying she was about an hour away from Bellingham, and asking if I wanted her to stop by. I told her to come up, and we hung out for the evening (including Jenn's visit). I showed her campus, played her the recordings of our songs, and we went to Fairhaven district and ate at 'On Rice,' which is quite good (Thai place).
O yeah, I also went shopping, and picked up things including some things I didn't really think I'd get for myself. This included polska kielbasa, or polish sausage-hotdogs, as well as some stadium buns and some strange mustard to go with. (I'm not really a ketchup person, though I should have gotten some dill relish...). Also picked up a spice jar of curry powder, yogurt, cereal, beef, a couple pasta-roni's (sad, but true), and about 8 cans of chili. This, of course, is not an all-inclusive list. I think I got some bread made with garlic; did not get any cheese (I'm afraid of buying it, I guess; especially that it'll be gross cheese, or that I won't use it, or that I'll just eat it by snacking on it instead of eating something worthwhile).
So, after I got back from hanging out with Gina (and having to drive; it's her habit to make me drive...) I finished up my modal counterpoint assignment, which I turned in this morning.
So, that's pretty much the highlights of my last day and a half or so. Aside from reading through Jacob 5 last night (which is the really long allegory about the olive trees in the orchard...).
In all, it was ... I think actually 'fun.' Strange.
