You never know what you're going to find out

A group in the office is putting together a pilot episode for CMT (I think) about instruments that are old or have stories. Well, the guy they were going to interview who had a "haunted" guitar fell through so they needed someone with an old instrument quick. So I volunteered my piano. I ended up interviewing Dad and one of my aunts today to gather information on the piano, considering I had limited knowledge on it. I knew it was old, I knew it was brought to KS on a covered wagon, and I know that it's been passed down to a woman named Ruth in each generation...well, with the exception of me...that was about it.
Turns out that my Vose & Sons upright grand was made in 1898, brought to St. Louis by train, then taken to Garden City, KS via covered wagon. My piano is OLD!!! Now I feel bad about pounding so hard on it all my life...eek! Rachmaninoff and Meat Loaf songs are not the easiest on a piano. Sniff sniff...now I want to go over to my parents' house and give it a hug and apologize for all the abuse it's taken.

::Sigh:: I may have to name my future (WAAAAAAAY future) kid Ruth just to make sure the thing stays with me....even if it's a boy...well, it's supposed to go to a girl in the family, but still...

work, music
