So after writing that other passage, my Executive Producer calls to tell me that there's a shot in the show that isn't right. You have to understand something...THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN DETECTED WHEN WE WERE RUNNING QUALITY CONTROL!!!! I don't know the show, edit for edit, like the editor does. Therefore it's the editor's job to get their ass into the session when we're all watching for tape glitches and stuff like that. Instead, they're getting discovered in AUDIO!
I digress.... So I have to go find the shot they're talking about and figure out what went wrong. I come to discover that the reference list of every single edit used in the show (AKA an Edit Decision List) is wrong. Thankfully, it only happened on this shot. The shot is actually 5 seconds further back in the tape than what the EDL says it is. You have to understand something about an EDL. It's a program that communicates directly with the AVID program. There is no such thing as manually going in and changing the time codes on this list. Whatever cuts or source tapes are put into AVID, they show up in the EDL automatically. It SHOULD be a no-error process. But of course, for the simple fact that someone up there hates me, the EDL randomly decided to change the time code used. So again, we're back to square one...but at least we were already planning on being there to begin with because of the other problem.
...Methinks we really need to hire an exorcist for that editing room.
