As soon as I got back here on Sunday night, things got busy again, so this really is the first time I've had the opportunity to post about it, but this weekend was probably the most fantastic time I've had since last summer. Well, that or the weekend that Bobbie and I lazed about and watched movies.
Tim and I hung out for a few hours on Saturday morning before a knock at the door at nine-thirty got me rather excited, expecting Chris to be on my porch. My mother opens the door, and who walks in but Chad Munson! The four of us went to Old Country Buffet for breakfast, where Chad told us riddles and he and I at some country gravy that made us sick later in the day.
After this, Chad, Tim, and I took a meandering walk throughout the city, during which we discussed philosophy, religion, politics, and what it means to be free. That was a great time. I'd really been missing those kinds of conversations with Chad. If you're reading, thanks for a great, intellectually stimulating time.
Also on this walk, Tim and I came up with an idea for a little art project. We plan to take as many of the rubber coverings off of those stop light buttons that do nothing as we can. These we will paint and glue to a piece of poster board to make the White Walking Man of Destiny.
Another project idea came from Chad involving planting flags with some sort of symbol on them at various provocative places around the city: the police station, city hall, Bicentennial Tower, etc. The point is to show that claims of authority have no true meaning beyond what people agree to accept as authority. I don't know how serious he was about it, but I'm highly interested in the idea.
The three of us returned to my house, where we sat on the porch and continued conversing for another couple of hours. At some point, Chris called from work. When Mom brought out the phone, I must admit I assume he just wanted a ride from work. Well, he did want that, but he also wanted to hang out. He asked me to call Vicky and Liza while he wrapped up his last two hours at work. Initially, I didn't want to, as I was more in the mood to hang out with individual people.
But I'm glad I did.
We rounded the two of them up, almost by force, and proceeded to walk. Laughs were had, some really great pictures were taken, and it was a lot of fun. The walk was even more slow and meandering than the last one, and by the time we got downtown, the sun had set a long time ago. We encountered a bunch of drunk people down there, but even that couldn't spoil my fun. A trolley bus full of drunken girls seemed to be following us; we encountered them three or four times. One time, I yelled something to them about being intoxicated women of ill-repute, to which they responded with the following profound statement: "WOOOOOO!"
We ran into another two girls, obviously from out of town, over at the Downtown Hotel, who asked if we knew "where [they] could get some alcohol around here?" Chris's response had me laughing pretty hard. "Over there somewhere," he said, gesturing in the opposite direction of the downtown bars, followed by a ridiculous dance accompanied by a little diddy of "Non-specific, non-specific..."
Tim and I parted ways with the rest of the group in order to be in bed in time to get up for church the following morning. The next day, after a trip to Cracker Barrel with Mom, we took a walk of our own that led us down to the Maritime Museum and back. I had to leave shortly after that in order to get work done. My sincere apologies to those I promised more time with, but my most passionate thanks to you for a great weekend.
I absolutely felt like it was summer vacation that day. Every time I feel the pain of my sunburn, I remember Saturday, and that's what's getting me through my last week of classes and what'll probably get me through finals week- knowing that more such days are coming if I hold out a little longer.
I don't know if I can come home next weekend, but if I can't, my last day is Thursday of next week. Soon enough, we'll all be entering the Stargate and traveling to P3X-AWESOME-BEANS!!!
