World of No Craft

It seems like the World of Warcraft servers in the US are always so busy that the extra busy places on them kick me off the server. I can't enter Stormwind after a certain time of day ( Read more... )

I play both but my main raiding character is Horde.

I'm an altaholic but you'll most likely see my mage Elaestra logged on.

I know what you mean about playing with people you know IRL though. I didn't really have much fun playing until a long-time friend of mine started playing. She had friends on Ysera and talked me into moving there and rolling a Horde character. I think that the thing at this point that adds most to the experience for me is finding a guild that plays the way you want to play, be it hard-core raiding, casual raiding, PvP, or just leveling multiple characters. My current guild is casual raiding and I moved there from a more hard-core raiding guild because the GM liked to micro-manage how everyone played their character. My current guild does raids but they don't tell you how to spec or pressure you to gear up your character. Much more enjoyable experience for me. While I don't know anyone in the guild IRL other than my one long-time friend and I'm not one of the "cool kids" (never have been) it's still a heck of a lot more fun than I had questing alone when I first started playing.
Guilds come and go and change over the years so I never expect it to last forever, but finding one that works for you at the moment is really nice.

The primary problem I tend to have is I rarely see the same people more than once. When I actually get to see the same people a lot, I do everything I can to be helpful, but it never seems to last.

It's discouraging to be invited to be a guild member and then never see anyone from my new guild ever again. :(

I'll look for Elaestra on the Horde side. :)

If someone named Bloodhart hails you, that's me. I'm level 6, but I know how to climb levels, although not so much on the Horde side. This will be interesting...

I found Ysera just about as busy as Shadowmoon, although I haven't tried to take an Alliance-side character into Stormwind at 9pm for the ultimate test, yet.

Sometimes when you're in a mood for experimentation, try making a character on Saurfang, just for comparison's sake. There's a world of difference. :)

I'll keep an eye out for you. I'm a bit busy until Sunday so I most likely won't be on until then.

Leveling Horde characters isn't much different than Alliance. I think that both sides have very similar quests, it's just a matter of finding where everything is.

I like the add-on "Quest Helper" although I know roughly an equal number of people who swear by it as swear at it, usually calling it a cheat since it tells you on the map where to find items for the quests you're on. Your mileage may vary.

If you're looking for a high population city on Horde side to see if you get bumped off the server, Orgrimar is probably your best bet. There are usually more folks hanging around there than Undercity or Silvermoon.

As far as guilds go, I've had varied experience with them. On Alliance side, I got invites to a number of guilds only to log on one day to find everyone gone and my character promoted to guildmaster so that the last person could bail and go to another guild. A lot of people start guilds thinking that it's cool to be a guildmaster until they realize it's a lot of work to manage a guild well and maybe it's just a bit easier to just be another guildie and play instead of working so hard. Most good guilds will have a web site, bank tabs and keep track of raids with a calendar where people can sign up.

My current guild has over 400 people in it (a lot of them are alts of other players) and there's often 15-30 members online at a time. More on raid nights.

I'll take a look at Saurfang when I get a chance. It'll give me an excuse to level another Death Knight.

As you have probably noticed, I like to ramble about World of Warcraft. :)

I have Quest Helper. I'm just waiting for it to catch up with the latest patch and I'll be using it again.
