The hunt begins.

It's a Windoze related problem, where every so often Windows Explorer crashes for no reason, taking all available instances of Explorer with it.

Searching for a solution to this, I found a link saying it was probably a shell extension error, and I could try to nail down which extension was causing the problem with a utility designed to let you turn on and off individual shell extensions.

So I've made a guess regarding which extension is the likely culprit, and now I'm waiting to see if Explorer crashes again.

Of course, it makes more sense to me that somewhere in Windows would be a log file for keeping track of what program was taking Windows down every time, but unfortunately, this is Microsoft. They don't believe their users should have that sort of ability to debug their own computer like that. They believe that if a user wants basic functionality, they either need to be able to program, or they need to find someone who does.[/rant]

Meanwhile, YouTube has issues of their own. There's this recently added functionality called Annotations where you can view and insert little thought bubbles in the middle of videos, which other people are then forced to watch while they're attempting to watch the media they were interested in, presumably the reason they clicked on the link in the first place.

YouTube, in their endless wisdom, have decided to make the viewing of Annotations activated by default, forcing users to turn off viewing of Annotations every time they view a video which contains them (through the menu icon on the far right hand side). There's some evidence there's a way to add commentary to other people's videos as well, though I don't know how to do that yet.

This means you don't actually know your video content is going to be interrupted by some idiot with too much mouth and too little restraint until the commentary rears its ugly head. Then you generally have to stop the video, turn off the "view Annotations" setting, rewind your video a little, and then start watching again to see if the Annotations actually made you miss something important. Of course, at that point, the spell is broken. Your initial enjoyment has been trashed by said idiot.
