I remember reading on someone's journal last week to go see this movie, and I just feel the need to second that motion.
Last night, Kate, Christy, Drew, and I went to see it, and I'm not going to lie to you. I had tears rolling down my face and was sobbing uncontrollably during several parts of the movie. And I'm not talking "Titanic" or "Big Fish" crying, this was like torn up, crying for humanity tears.
The movie is basically a look at racial prejudices today, but it really presents the subject matter in a much higher complexity. I loved how it went beyond the black vs white issue, and encompassed so much more of the spectrum concerning racial conflict... Hispanics, Asians, Middle Easterners... and even the different groups and classes within them. The symbolism of how all of these characters become interlinked in each other's lives is amazing, and it's so cool to watch the movie unfold and see how each character has an effect on the next. It was really powerful to watch some of the most ignorant characters evolve their racial standpoints and come to the realization that everyone's human... and at the same time, see how everyone has their own prejudices.
Ugh, I could go on and on... such a good movie. Loved Sandra Bullock, Thandie Newton, and Michael Pena. Go see it and then talk to me, cuz I want to discuss it with someone haha.
