When Rachel’s on stage, she is concentrated on one thing. Her body.
It’s nothing sexual. It all has to do with awareness. Aside from her presentation to the audience, which is important in itself, she monitors her reactions. To herself, to the audience, to the lights, the music, all of it.
A lot of times, it’s like fireworks going off in her ribcage. The pride she feels makes sure of that, along with the adrenaline and the general ambiance. It’s all sort of magical. She thinks that’s why she got into theater.
Her favorite holiday always had been Independence Day.

Challenge: Fireworks
Rating: G

As a child, Emma Pillsbury despised the Fourth of July. Every year, her parents would drag her to a dirty, bug-infested field so they could watch the annual fireworks display. It was loud, and crowded, and generally unsanitary. Mostly, it was the noise that bothered her.
It is, perhaps, why Ken keeps her so much on edge. He is boisterous, to say the least. Always dropping books heavily, slamming doors, speaking with a booming voice.
Emma much prefers Will’s general demureness. He speaks softly, his eyes are gentle, and when he kisses her, expectedly softly, the fireworks are pleasantly silent.

“But the fireworks! You have to make them work!”
“I’m a computer nerd. Not a pyrotechnic expert. I can’t help you.”
“The half-time show won’t be complete without them. Coach Sylvester will flip a pancake.”
He almost giggles. “Look, Santana, I can’t help you. Maybe Puck? Isn’t he into fire?”
“I want you to help me, Artie. Puck’s a moron. I want you.”
“I’m sorry. Mr. Carter teaches chemistry. Maybe he can help.”
“Ugh! That’s it!” Santana grabs him roughly by the shoulders and kisses him.
His glasses are askew when she retreats. “Well, when you put it that way.”
