Back in 2009, we were in the midst of producing VS3 of the fan-produced virtual seasons that added 21 episodes altogether to the 13-episodes-canon. It was pretty clear to everyone involved that this would be the last virtual season. Two weeks before May 13th I had this idea on the spur of the moment - what if we, like a few other fandoms, would have one day in the year to come together and celebrate? I just put it out there, and people came, sharing fanfiction and thoughts on the discussion post. That was the first Women’s Murder Club Day.
There have been a few changes over the years, but I’m happy to say that #wmcday 2012 was the biggest #wmcday so far, even 4 years after cancellation. It’s a long time for a fandom whose center, the actual show, hasn’t been around. Still, every year in the femslash_today newsletter, we can compete with the biggest fandom at the time, Glee this year. There has been fanfic, there were graphics, vids and many tweets, and also a handful of people visiting the discussion post.
