Why the heck is Sara so damn popular??

So, I'm cruising through ff.net and 9 out of 10 stories seem to be either Sara or GSR centric. And if you go to any of the CSI fan sites with message boards, there's all these fangirls gushing and squeeing about Sara. Even if the fan doesn't always like the GSR, they seem to adore Sara.

What I want to try and understand is... why?

Sara is a hit or miss if you ask me. I'd say I kind of "liked" her early on because I *didn't* like her. While Nick and the others needed some lessons here and there about how to do their job, she learned both those lessons, and well... life lessons to an extent- at least she would have if she'd listened to Nick and some of the others around her. That make sense? I never really liked her character, but with others, like Catherine, Warrick, and especially Nick- I enjoyed the interaction.

I also liked her potential to grow as a character. If you ask me- she had the most potential to work with her character. And I kept hoping and waiting for more. We saw some growth here and there, not nearly enough, but still some. Unfortunately the writers had different plans. Because during season 6... she only had any signs of growing and becoming more mature in Gum Drops and Rashomama. Then after GSR, she was never developed further. If TPTB had managed to transform her character over the seasons into a more mature, respectful type character... then I'd probably actually like her. Of course we all know that never happened. Her entire potential was essentially wasted...

As for fans- I think it's because she's young, pretty tough physically, she's extremely *angsty*, very forceful, doesn't take any "crap" (I say "crap" because what she thinks is crap in a number of episodes are things she ought to take to heart...), etc. I've seen *a lot* of teenage girls that act like her (unfortunately), and well, there you go- they tend to think they can do no wrong, and then make Sara their role model (even though almost every other character, aside from Grissom (post season 6...), would make a better role model). Not to say this is true for all of her fans, but that's my take on a lot of fans I've met on various sites.
