So I got my qualifying exam scores back on Tuesday. I passed the Basic Exam, and I failed the Algebra exam. Oh well, I didn't need to pass algebra right away anyways, especially since I was going to take the class regardless. I got a 75/100 on the Basic (58 was a passing score) and I got....embarrassingly enough, a 32/160 on the Algebra qual (I got bitch-slapped....no clue what a passing score was though).
So here's my first PhD update:
-Qualifying Exams
-Basic Exam--PASSED
-Area Exam #1: Algebra
-Area Exam #2: Geometry/Topology
-Area Exam #3: Analysis
-Language Requirement: French
Next up is the French exam on November 3. I hear these exams are a joke to pass even when you know nothing about the language because you are allowed a french-to-english dictionary :). Since I took 4 years of french in high school, I am hoping I can pass it and get it out of the way once and for all. Good times....
