The Ducks season started yesterday against the Kings, and I can't possibly be more excited! For the first time since high school I'm able to see every game on TV (only 4 games this year will not be televised). We are already 2-0-0 after wins against the LA Kings (4-3) and the Phoenix Coyotes (2-1). We have the two best defensemen in the league in Scott Neidermeyer and Chris Pronger, which gives us probably the best defense in the league in front of the world-class goaltending of both JS Giguere and Ilya Bryzgalov. Our offense is every bit as tough as last year, and in light of that, it seems like everyone is (finally!!) buying into the Ducks as a good team in this league. In fact 4 of the 7 ESPN hockey analysts have Anaheim winning the Stanley Cup this year (the other three have Ottawa, Minnesota, and San Jose). Injuries always play a role in things like this, but wow, it'd be so nice to see it actually happen (after that tough game 7 loss in 2003).
In other news, graduate school is going well enough. I'm taking three classes (four if you count the TA training course) and I'm TAing two sections of calculus (the kids are cool enough; it makes me remember what it was like to be a freshman!). Last night one of my friends had his birthday party at Chili's so we all went there before going back to someone's house to play poker (I just watched, on account of I'm way too competative for friendly games), then played Cranium (I actually played this one) and then I came home to watch my taped copy of the Ducks game :). It was a great night, except I woke up with a hangover :(.
Anyways, Emily's coming to visit the first week of November. I'm really looking forward to it since the long distance really does bug me. I'm gonna try and get her to go to a hockey game with me (Ducks should be playing a home game against the Wild that weekend, so maybe we'll go see that one). All in all, should be a lot of fun.
