I've been thinking very seriously about starting a blog strictly for my writing stuff. A place to post excerpts and general chit chat about my thought processes. A place I can link to Twitter and not be afraid someone might see my more personal entries that I post on here. I would continue to use LJ as a place to vent, but most writing stuff would be on a separate blog.
What I'm unsure about is who is blogging? Myself or my pen name? If I blog using my own name, I can promote The Summer of the Frogs on there, but I would feel weird about promoting my pen name stuff, like Fragile Bones and any other more adult content work. On the other hand if I blogged as my pen name, I could talk about the process of writing Fragile Bones, like I do on here, and build on that. I would feel uncomfortable promoting TSotF on that blog, though.
I haven't done anything, because I still don't know what to do.
The other option is to pub Fragile Bones under my own name and do both. However, I've read places that it's not really a good idea to have two completely different genres under one name. People would become confused about what to expect from the "brand", or expecting one thing and getting something completely different from another work -- becoming disappointed or disgusted.
Or I suppose I could have two blogs and do both, but is that worth the extra time commitment?
My first instinct is to do one for my pen name, but after Fragile Bones is wrapped up, I'll be working on rewrites for The Winter of the Birds, so I'm afraid I won't have anything to say on the pen name blog.
Argh. I thought writing my thoughts out would help give me some answers, but it's only served to make me more confused about what to do.
I wish a fairy godmother would come down and tell me what the wisest course of action would be, what would be most beneficial. blargle
