The positive and negative sides of Social Networks..... thinking FACE BOOK

It can be VERY addicting and exciting at the same time. I've been highjacking my wife's facebook account to SEE what many say I'm missing. Log on and in less than 5 minutes you can run a search and find people from your past- I mean people who you haven't seen since that first pimple appeared- for me, as far back to when Neil Armstrong set foot on ( Read more... )

If people are so intent on "keeping in touch" and revealing so much about their own personal lives

They aren't. Facebook is superficial. It's a great way to keep in touch with people on a superficial level. If they did want to really keep in touch, they'd call, or get together, or keep up on LJ or e-mails. Facebook is good for seeing pictures of your friend's kids, or wishing them a happy birthday, sharing cheap little laughs. Or reading articles they thought were important. So you can find out things about people you hardly know. But you can't *really* keep in touch with anybody through FB. You can only keep them around.

About the best I can say about it is, if you find out things about someone that you hardly know, and you decide you like them, Facebook is a nice jumping-off point for that.
