“You mean like this?” She said and than bent her finger, the machine alarming, she straighten her finger, the alarm stopped abruptly, Kevin couldn’t help but laugh along.
As her head hit the pillow the same strand of hair, fall over her periwinkle blue eyes. This time Kevin reached a hand out and moved the hair out of her eyes, she yawned and closed them trying to get back to sleep. There were those eyes again.
“Emma?”
“Mmm?” She asked groggily.
“Open your eyes please.” He asked daring to look into them again. She slowly let them open, Kevin moved closer, hoping to see the eyes he’d been longing for and thought he’d just seen.
“What’s a matter Kevin?” She asked thinking that Kevin was going to say something she wasn’t quite inclined to explain under her condition, her stress meter out of whack.
“Nothing Emma, I just…well I thought I had noticed something, never mind I’m just losing it, it’s getting really late, goodnight.” He said patting Emma on her hand, carefully not to touch the oximeter.
But as he closed his eyes, he kept remembering words that Joe had said before.
“Kevin, the longer you keep you keep your eyes closed the closer you come to tripping on something that has always been right in front of you!”
If he wasn’t careful, he would be losing Emma and Lily at the same time.
Every time Kevin was closer to finding out who Lily really was, he kept getting interrupted. He lowered his head back, looking at the ceiling. Maybe Lily could hear him, if he sang; he picked up where he left off.
“I will give it all
Never let you fall
Cause you know we’re inseparable
I would give it up
Just to show you I’m in love
He paused, and whispered under his breath.
“Lily”
“Cause you know we’re inseparable
You know when the sun forges to shine
I’ll be there to hold you through the night
We’ll be running so fast we could fly tonight
And even when were miles and miles apart
You’re still holding all of my heart
I promise it will never be dark
I know were inseparable.”
Kevin rubbed his tired eyes and moved over on his back, planting a kiss on his hand he let it fly, he let his eyes find a new batch of dreams. Lily who had grabbed the underside of her pillow and pulled the other pillow down to elevate her head noticed Kevin’s gesture and when his eyes shut her arm shot up to grab the kiss as it fell back down towards her cheek.
Sunday at dusky, Lily was wearing her favorite PJ’s, hot pink button up long sleeved top embellished with white guitars, and matching shorts with lace around the edges. Magazines were gathered around her bed post, and she had the television remote in one hand, and a bowl of macaroni and cheese in the other. Her blonde hair was up in a high ponytail, and she had just gotten off the phone with her parents, her mom wishing her a speedy recovery, and lots of hugs and kisses. She hit the channel up button the remote a few times, settling on the opening credits to Red Green. Her slippers on her feet, she moved them side to side in rhythm to the opening theme song. There was hard knock on the door, as the door opened up Joe came running through the door as Nick tagged behind shaking his head in shame. Joe came towards her grabbing her dinner bowl out of her hands and reached a finger down grabbing a piece of macaroni and swallowed it. Emma slapped at his arm. He sat down cross legged on her bed. Nick was carrying a large envelope and grabbed a chair around towards her.
“Just went to check our mailboxes, and this is big envelope is for you m’lady.” Nick handing the envelope over, Joe looked over with a mouthful of food.
“Ah! Is it from a secret admirer by the name of Kevin?” He asked, a piece of pasta falling out of his mouth dripping in cheese, “Oops let me get that for you.” He said and scooped up the pasta and placing it back in the bowl. She laughed as she scrubbed her finger on the cheese sauce brushing it away. Her laughter ran dry when she saw the name of the return address.

Her finger felt under the flap of the envelope, her lip trembling, she shook the contents out of the envelope; four papers fell out to her lap.
Forward on behalf of Judge Herman.
Dear Allen Family,

There for any claim to ownership that is submitted heretofore from the Allen Family will be denied.
Effectively immediately. Counterclaims can be filed before 12/31/08.
Joe finished up before her, and Nick’s eyes scan down to read the last line, he was steamed. A single tear rolled down her face.
“Emma?” Nick asked slowly.
She pushed her hand up to silence Nick, and than felt her fingers tremble, she tried to steady them, but Joe got up first and held on to her hand. Her stomach lurched and her heart pinged. She had never felt so alone in her life, this was the last connection she had to her uncle, she felt like she was left on a sidewalk, everyone else could walk across, but she didn’t know which way to go. Joe couldn’t find any words to say to her, it was watching somebody’s downfall right in front of his eyes, a person who never asked for it either. He didn’t want to end up like this; he didn’t want to see anybody he cared about end up this way. He was mad at himself for everything he tried to do! Why Lily? Why now? Why not? He felt at his neck, he could still feel the scar; it was as if it was crying out for him to do something, but scars didn’t talk. Humans did, a single tear came out of his eye.
“Emma?” Nick asked again, and put a finger under her chin lifting it up slowly. A steady stream of tears rolled down, and hit against Nick’s fingers.
“What?” She said giving a slight hiccup. Her shoulders began heaving up and down.
“Come here.” He said and pulled her into a tight hug, she cried hard. Slowly he pulled her at away at arm’s length, she moved towards him facing him straight on her legs dangling off the side of the bed. “Come on Emma, this letter isn’t the be all end all. It’s sad no doubt about it, but things happen for a reason, you know that and look where it leads us, to something we never even imagined. Something scary, but just turn on the light, Emma. Just wait and see, I know there is another way.”
She rose up standing, tears dripping and rolling down the floor boards. Joe pulled her into a one arm hug. She pushed away suddenly her knees shaking. Closing her eyes she shook her head, almost making her head spin. She took the stack of papers off the bed and clutched them in her hand.
“Help.” She said in almost a dead whisper, she understood knew now that there was nobody left that mattered but the people that were living and breathing, and a faint remembrance of her uncle. Joe reached out his arms for her, he felt her walk into them, and she stayed there for a long time. She knew that her friends were going to help her no matter what. Joe gave her a reassuring smile; words unspoken from Joe made her feel wanted.
Nick leaned over towards the night stand and handed her a tissue, she dabbed her eyes but the tears still ran like a waterfall. Her breathing became irregular.
“It feels like I’m loosing my uncle all over again.” She said, closing her eyes, as she said the words she could almost taste her tears. The door creaked open; Kevin came in, the door stayed ajar. Nick spun around, as Joe rubbed Emma on the back.
“Hey Kevin, I believe your next in line for a hug.” Nick said trying to smile.
“Wait, what’s going on?” Kevin said hearing tears come from Emma’s body; it broke his heart to see her crying so hard. “What happened?”
“Emma got some really bad news come in the mail for her today; we are all trying to comfort her.” Joe replied. “Well, Nick and I are going to get some dinner and we promise to bring you guys back some dessert and coffee. I think you have to be here now Kevin.” He said as they silently walked outside.
Without any support Lily’s knees gave way, the papers fluttered around falling to the ground, she sank to the floor. Kevin bent over picking up the pieces of paper, turning them around, looking at them properly. He left the papers so he could grab on to Emma’s arms, he raised her up. She fell into his arms, rocking her back and forth her tears began to evaporate. Suddenly Kevin understood that Emma had told them about her contact being seized, but he didn’t know until now that her old record label was one owned by a family member. It’s sole owner, Bridgette. But that’s all he knew, for now. Seeing that Emma was crying no more, he slowly walked her back to her bed. Her eyes were dropping as she crawled back into bed.
Letting the reality soak in, he picked the papers up off the floor and placed them on her side table. Walking away towards the window, he noticed the first twilight stars of the night, peak out through the sky. Emma let out a huge sigh, grabbing her white terry cloth blanket she threw it over her arms, like a jacket.
“Hey Emma you have to see this, it’ll cheer you up I promise, it’s something that I know changes every night but it still has a way of staying exactly the way it is.” Kevin called to her.
She looked around confused, as she walked over where Kevin was standing. The stars, ages old still shined as bright as if they were given a new life every night. It helped her relax and forget about her troubles. She felt Kevin pull her closer. “Here, you’ll get a better look.” Turning to her side, she placed her hot cheek, on Kevin’s shoulder.
One last hot tear rolled down her cheek.
“You know Kevin, when you’re really little and your parents walk you across the street and they are so worried about you that they take your hand?” She asked him. Kevin looked down at her, watching the tear.
“Who’s hand am I going to hold now that my old record label is gone, the one my uncle created I have to walk across the street now, my future isn’t going to wait any longer?”
“Take my hand.” Kevin said softly. She smiled, Kevin did too. They looked up towards the sky, the first constellation connected dots across the sky. By the name of Cassiopeia. Kevin stood there imagining if Lily was watching the night sky, but no matter how near or far he thought she was viewing it, he was right, she was right under his nose.
Author’s Notes: End of Chapter 10! You just read 32 pages! This chapter took the most time to write, and I hope it was worth the wait. That’s the just the way I roll! I’m sorry to say that the Judge has given the record label (Wildest Dreams Record Label) to W.T.R. and it’s heir to be Bridgette. It was a law-abiding contract to give the old V.P. permission and rights to the company once Lily’s uncle stepped down. Oh but I’m not stopping there, I don’t think Bridgette deserves it in the least, there is another way! Just remember that. So just remember that the record label has a long way to go till it in the Reed’s hands, or will it be given to anybody? Maybe nobody! Keep taking notes, and please review my chapter. The poll has been updated, so you will want to check that out, and vote! Thank you for taking time to read this chapter. Goodnight and goodbye it’s time for me to fly! Thank you again for reading the new chapter.
Until Chapter 11! Rock your life! Bye!
