My Car Broke Down...

Aug 29, 2008 08:13

...and rather than tell you about it, I will tell you how 1) It could've been WORSE, & 2) It could have been BETTER. Ahem.

WORSE: A good samaritan stopped to give me a ride.
BETTER: He did so while I was still laboring under the vain assumption my car would start again. Once I abandoned that hope and the car, all other good Samaritans were sleeping soundly in Samaria.

BETTER: It broke down at 1:15 am in the middle of nowhere.
WORSE: I LIVE in the middle of nowhere, so it was only like 10 or so miles from my house. Though it always feels a lot closer when you're used to driving somewhere.

BETTER: I had to walk about 10 miles.
WORSE: I was getting fat anyway. Now I feel nice and lean.

WORSE: I happened to have along the speaker for my Ipod, which was (for a change) fully charged. It lasted the whole way.
BETTER: I was halfway home when the theme from Hawaii 5-0 came on, and to amuse myself, I broke into a heroic, Jack Lord-style run. This lodged my boxers firmly into no-man's land. Which ALSO lasted the whole way.

WORSE: I'm getting a new car tomorrow, so I'd have only had it one more day.
BETTER: I only NEEDED it one more day! I mean come on!!! Now I have to get that crappy pile of crap-piles towed!

WORSE: I got down to the last mile before I thought to myself, "Gee, at least it's not raining."
BETTER: I think you know what happened next.

WORSE: Just when I was dog-tired of slogging through the rain and felt like I couldn't take it anymore, "Mariner's Revenge Song" came on. I was skipping by the end of it. So hornpipe-y. Thanks, Colin Meloy.
WORSE: I should be able to borrow a car from my mom tomorrow to drive to the dealership
BETTER: I will have to ask her for it, and I'm certain she will scold me for not planning ahead when the blame clearly rests with my car for being old and crappy. Besides, I DID plan ahead. I merely miscalculated by a couple of hours.

Meh, I think that sums it up. Maybe I should've just hunted around for a tow-truck number, but who knows when they'd have shown up. Besides, maybe it'll start one last time, after a whole night of cooling down. Either way, it won't have to go far, and I can sleep in my own bed. Which I think I'll do now. Goodnight.
