[series]: Katekyo Hitman Reborn!
[character]: Uni
[character history / background]:
Here [character abilities]: Despite being a boss of a Mafia family, Uni has little use for weapons and abstains from physical fighting. Her true strength lies in her role as the Sky Arcobaleno. Like her mother and grandmother before her, Uni possesses the ability to revive or heal fallen Arcobaleno, which she does by ultimately giving her life for them. She also has psychic talents, such as reading the thoughts and emotions of others, as well as seeing the future. When she dies, Uni passes the memories she has of the events during the Future Arc to select Mafia figures as well as the revived Arcobaleno.
[character personality]: Uni is a kind and selfless boss, a rarity in the Mafia world. This may be due to the fact that until her mother’s death, she had been kept in the dark of her ties to the Giglio Nero and the Mafia in general, and thus retained her childish innocence and honesty. This doesn’t hinder her as her mother’s successor, as Uni proves herself to be quite the capable boss.
She calmly and fearlessly leads the Family, worrying about them should they be caught up in brutal fights. Even after she had only been their boss for a few months, she considers them her actual family, and has earned their trust and undying support with her pure and selfless leadership.
With the Vongola Famiglia, Uni is respectful and appreciative, quickly making friends with them and defending them in their fight with Byakuran.
[point in timeline you're picking your character from]: At the end of the Future Arc, when Uni dies. She still has her memories of the Vongola and the Millefiore families.
[third person sample]:
Uni fastens her cloak around her slim shoulders. With steady hands, she places upon her head the hat worn by bosses of the Giglio Nero Famiglia. The cloak and the hat both bear the symbol of the Family, the lily; its is a symbol of authority and one that must be revered. Uni, too is claimed by the lily. Under her left eye is the defining birthmark of a boss fated to die early.
She looks at herself in the mirror. Her clothing marks her as the head of the Giglio Nero, but more than that, Uni can feel the strength of the Sky Arcobaleno in these heirlooms. Passes down from her grandmother to her mother, and now to her, Uni feels the pain and sacrifices made by the Sky Arcobaleno of the past. The memories of their short lives are hers now by inheritance.
Uni knows, of course, that her own life will be cut short. But as the boss of the Giglio Nero, as the holder of the Sky Arcobaleno pacifier, she must protect those important to her, and prevent Byakuran from controlling all parallel universes. The dead Arcobaleno must be revived, and there is only one way to make this happen.
Like her mother and grandmother before her, Uni will make the sacrifice that will cease her soul's flames. But unlike them, she has no daughter of her own that will inherit the Sky Arcobaleno pacifier or the Family. She is the last one.
She remembers this, with traces of fear and sadness marring her calm composure. But I want to help everyone. I have to help them! There is no other way around it. Yet the child in her cries out against this life-ending decision. She wants to live and breathe and lead the Giglio Nero into greatness. Why are death and sacrifice the only things she sees ahead of her? Visions of the life she could have lived flash through her mind, and Uni finds her surroundings are a blur. Or maybe it's because of the tears that are springing to her eyes. How unfamiliar. The last time she cried was when her mother passed away.
Mother.
Uni blinks and shakes her head, hoping to clear her mind of the fear and regret. Her mother would tell her to smile right now. Even when the pain seemed to great, when it seemed like she would crumble under the burden given to her, she has to smile. For her Family. For her comrades. Uni steels herself. There is wavering, but her resolve to defeat Byakuran would overpower the desire to run away.
Uni takes one last look in the mirror. Her expression is determined. It's the last time she knows she would see her own face. It is a face she wants to remember. She can see her grandmother and mother in herself. Their strength, their will to protect those they love, their pledge to make any and all sacrifices; they all belong to Uni now. She takes her steps and they lead her to where the final battle takes place. She goes there not to fight, but to lead and defend.
And, finally, under the eyes of the sky, bring the fighting to an end.
