Outside 210 [Sunday Morning]

Mar 11, 2012 16:26

Leah woke up in a stranger’s bed yesterday. A stranger who kept a damn knife under her pillow and had books full of weird symbols on her shelves along with not much else. What in the freaky-deaky hell was with that?

The better part of her wake-up yesterday had involved taking photographic evidence to show Juno when she could. This morning she’d ( Read more... )

Cara may have been tempted to sleep in the common room last night rather the room she'd woken in yesterday, but the softness of that bed and a door that would shut had won out (and if she was being honest, she wanted to take advantage of the smaller room with the hot, running water again) but after waking up this morning and not being back home, she was looking for other people to try and figure out what was going on.

She cautiously approached the other girl. "Hello?"

"Hey-yo. Tell me you actually live here."

Because she was looking for answers, and however weirdly dressed this chick was, she could still have some.

There was nothing weird about the way Cara was dressed. Regardless about what you could say about her actual dress,

"Actually I was hoping you did," she said, fiddling with her hair. "I'm not even sure where here is."

"It's not Minnesota." Leah had clearly got a long way in her investigations. "And I am all out of ruby slippers." That leap made sense somewhere in her head.

"I gave up figuring this crap out somewhere around lunchtime. Yesterday."

Well, at least that made sense to one of them. "Where's Minnesota? I've never heard of it." Or seen it on a map...not that she really had access to many maps back home, let alone up to date ones.

"... A state?" Come on, who hadn't at least heard of an entire state. "One of the boring ones in the middle of the top bit. My town is a snore." Of course, this explanation worked far better if you actually knew of the US.

"So where the frick are you from?"

"I think the word your looking for is province, and I still haven't heard of yours." If Cara sounded like a schoolteacher just then, well, she was apprenticed to one. She was also ignoring the urge to try to wash the other girl's mouth out with soap. "I'm from Stowecroft. It's a town, in D'Hara."

"Di-whata?" Yeah, they were equally lost either way they tried this. "Are you from Europe?"

Weird place names, trying to call a nice normal state a province... It was a best guess.

"No?" By this point Cara wasn't even entirely sure where she was from.

"I think you're supposed to know for sure." Just a hunch. Leah didn't actually know any Europeans. "And maybe sound weirder."

"Maybe you're the one who's supposed to sound weird." Their accents weren't that different. "You're the one coming up with all these weird place names after all."

"Fair do's, Minnesota's pretty weird. But only if you know the right places." So, not the town she grew up in, for sure. It was pretty regu-lame-o. It was sad. They made their own entertainment. Which is how she ended up moving living room sets into people's yards a lot.

"One day, I'll move to like, New York or San Francisco. A million times hotter." Not temperature-wise.

[[ and I must sleeep for a few hours! ]]

Yeah, Cara did not know your crazy American slang. "Why would you want to move into the heat?"

Not that she minded that mild winters meant they had good harvests and didn't starve, but it also meant there was hardly ever snow. And she liked snow.
