there is a new battery egg factory planned for the city of casey, 1 hour from central melbourne!
this is the same city that made itself the honourary home port for the "robert hunter"! so if they, the city of casey, really care about animals and the environment (by showing support for sea shepherd) then they should not allow this to go ahead
A planning permit is currently before the City of Casey to build a mega battery hen factory farm in Tooradin, an hour's drive from Melbourne's CBD. Over 300,000 hens will never ever set foot on the ground or see the light of day. This mega hen concentration camp is proposed to be built on the South Gippsland Highway on land abutting the outskirts of the Tooradin township, so there is widespread local opposition to it - mainly based on odour and noise.
The development includes five huge sheds, each holding 50,000 battery hens in cages four tiers high, and three sheds for rearing the chicks with 17,000 babies in cages three tiers high. The property will also incorporate 40 huge silos, a total of 91 ventilation fans in the sheds, and a shop-front on the South Gippsland Hwy, all adding to the cruel monstrosity and noxious smell on one of Victoria's popular tourist highways.
