Summary: Rousseau's maps detail more than just the Island.
These lines of charcoal scratched against paper began life as marks of necessity. A detailed account of days and nights, of scaling cliffs, navigating jungle, trekking along a far-reaching sea.
When the island’s geography was exhausted, these sheets of paper became a junkyard for theories, notations, calculations-the full outpouring of a scientific mind in a place where science is all but obsolete.
It’s music and musings that followed the science, broken in pieces, scattered, unfinished.
Then it was gone-the sum total of her sixteen years {of madness}, lost. It mattered not. The lines were forever etched in her memory; the music plays on in her mind.
