Memorial Day with Family

May 31, 2010 23:01

Today I got up as early as I could. I missed church which I was very sad about but I was sick when I first got up and decided it was not in my best interest to go to church. I was better in bed.

We had our first Memorial Day picnic in years. Years ago we would go over to my Great Aunt Cleone’s house for a Memorial Day picnic. That ended a lot of years ago. Last year my aunt died and my cousin decided it was a good time for a BBQ again.

The steaks were the yummiest steaks I have ever had. My first yummiest got demoted to my 2nd today. They were rib-eye and I don’t know what he cooked them with but they were so good and cooked to perfection.

Norman, my cousin, fed us so well. I can’t even express how full I was. We ate around 3pm and I wasn’t hungry again all night. And I do mean all night. I did have a snack around 1:30am but I think that was more because I felt like I should eat before taking my pills. Sooo crazy!

Conversation was so good. I walked away with a very cool gift. My aunt and cousin had bought one of those coolers that are hot or cold and you plug them into your car outlet. I have wanted one for years but could never afford one. He said they bought it and never ended up using because my aunt was in too much pain to go on road trips anymore.

Norman also offered to build me an oak table that is portable besides the fact that it is oak. He he. He made one years ago and it is gorgeous! I told him how much I loved it and he offered to build one for me. How lucky am I? I will love it. It is bigger than most of the tables you see that are the same kind so it will be much more useful and as long as I take care of it, it will last forever.

We had the whole family in one place at one time. The only one missing was Stacie’s Brian’s son, Dane. It was his weekend with his mom. It was funny; Norman finally got tired of trying to keep the Brian’s straight and just started calling Stacie’s boyfriend, Stacie’s Brian. So now that is probably what he will be from now on as a joke.

The day was good but very long. We were at Norman’s house until after 6pm. Then dad and I went to one of the cemeteries. We were supposed to drive to Liberty to the cemetery but dad didn’t feel good about it so we didn’t go. I meant to just talk to my mom at the house for a short time. Then Kevin and Shellsey showed up and I talked with them for a while. Before I got a chance to leave Stacie showed up with the girls. She had asked my mom to babysit because she and Brian decided they wanted to go to the drive-in. So I spent a bit of time with them. I was almost asleep in my dad’s chair and finally headed home.

The evening ended with me knitting while watching a movie with Cheryl. I kind of finished the shawl I have been knitting. I think I might have to change how I finished it off but I will work on that later. I finally fell into an exhausted sleep around 2:30am.
