Title: The Power of Knowledge
Author: Sweetness (aaronlisa@gmail.com)
Rating: FR13
Pairing: none
Disclaimer: Harry Potter belongs to JK Rowling and company.
Prompt: 100quills - #60 (knowledge)
Notes: Set during Hermione’s fifth year at Hogwarts.
Summary: Hermione's thirst for knowledge is something that the boys mock.

Hermione was annoyed with Ron’s and Harry’s constant teasing over her desire to study for her OWLS. They seemed to not care about their marks, and instead of applying themselves they found ways to get out of studying while making fun of her. It might have been Ron who did most of the teasing, but Harry still avoided the work. Neither of them seemed to care how upset it made her. They were content to assign her the role of the brain, the one who would get them out of scrapes when brawn didn’t work. Neither Ron nor Harry seemed to want to accept that the fact that for a muggle-born witch, like herself, knowledge and talent would open doors for her that would otherwise be closed to her on the basis of her birth. And there was a part of her that felt if they couldn’t accept that single fact that motivated her, their supposed best friend and one third of the Gryffindor trio, then they didn’t really accept her at all. They were just like her muggle friends who had abandoned her when she had left for Hogwarts.
