Things have been absolutely crazy around here. I have spent my entire weekend cleaning. Reason being: Home visits from Kindergoth's teacher. Now, to tell the truth, the very thought of any of these people coming into my home to pass judgment does not set well with me -at all-. And I know what they are supposed to look for. They are supposed to make certain the home is "safe" and my child isn't running around in filth. I'm guessing they also want to make certain we are helping her education in some way and feeding her something other then candy, cake and cookies. They will want to take note in the way I interact with her and they will want to see her room, where she plays and sleeps.
I already know I am going to lose points for my child having her own tv/dvd player in her room despite the fact that she doesn't pay attention to it yet she insists on having it on as 'background noise'.
What I am more worried about is them taking note of our choice of decor. Shelves full of books on various religions and the occult (most of which are frowned upon by 'normal' society and people who consider themselves to be 'Christians') and our choice of decor which includes numerous skulls, skeletons, cauldrons, bats, candles and anything else that could be considered 'spooky' because that's just who we are. (I'm more then certain my working altar in my living room will raise eyebrows.) Then there is Ghost, who, even though her tank is secure, many would shrink back from because she has grown considerably (and of course most people don't care for snakes).
I really hope that her teacher just stays focused on what's important and refrains from walking away from this visit feeling as though I may be sacrificing my child to some pagan god or Haitian loa the day she turns 5. She's a very sweet black woman.. Hopefully she possesses the ability to be open-minded. (I do have to say that since Kindergoth's room is decorated in mostly faeries and light pastel colors, I feel less worried then I would feel if it was dark and spooky like the rest of our house.)
You may wonder why the hell I'm so worried about this. Living through the negative aspects of Children and Family Services in the past has left me with a healthy fear of anyone who is involved with the state. People involved with the state = People with the power to rip my child away from me, in my mind. And since my child needed this "ABLE" Class to help with her speech, the state is obviously involved.
Later, after my stress level has subsided some, I will post an update on the dream situation, as well as how my visit went today and a pic of Kindergoth after she found my pvc cat mask. Stay Tuned.
witchy stuff,
