Yet, returning to the dressing of the story - the side characters. This was for me the most fun, the most interest, and most suspense. I deliberately avoided any historical facts of the period, so I was totally in the dark whether the Silver King would survive to the end, and of he does, in what financial capacity he´ll end up. All in all, I´m glad I didn’t.
I already spoke highly enough about most of the side-cast, but still, Cameron was the largest surprise for me. Harvey´s depth and eventual fate I kind of suspected was my own fault; and Walker with Augusta were always interesting characters to begin with - I always love stories that humanize the one-use, one-dimensional characters that the story needs. It began with (if I remember correctly) the general in the first book, Walker´s superior. He arrived and he could be simply a tool story needed to move in a certain direction, but he had his own head, his own quirks and most importantly, his own judgement. I think this was the first surprise of the story and then it only kept coming, culminating in the pinnacles of Augusta and Cameron.
So, to close it down before my comment runs longer than a chapter (which could happen, if I´m not careful)…
Awesome story, a gem I never expected to find when I started reading “some Akame fanfiction or whatever”. And while I was never the target audience, the main pair grew on me quite quickly, and the side-dish of the supporting characters kept me reading and having fun with the story. The third one, certainly with the central theme and the ending, surpasses the first two books combined.
Good luck to you with your next projects! I´ll do what I can to help you see them through, my Maho!
PS: I still think you could rewrite the first two a bit, change names, and sell it as normal novel ;)
Yet, there´s not much I can say even after I went through it repeatedly.
I guess I´m still simply too relieved to be done with RW and I do not want to get back to it anymore. Not now at least.
Thank you so much for going through it all with me. Our discussions related to this "Akame gem" were priceless to me. I´m happy and proud that you liked it and stuck with me to the very end.
...continuing.
