It all makes sense now!

While playing Diablo II this morning (because I woke up early again and decided to try a change from Diablo I). I thought about Diablo III coming out and I came to an abrupt conclusion regarding a certain NPC...

Deckard Cain is evil.

No, hear me out. Deckard Cain was the only NPC to survive the first game, aside from (kinda) the rogue and sorcerer, who were corrupted and killed off anyway. For whatever reason, despite being in Tristram when it was destroyed, Cain survived. And somehow he managed to survive through the entirety of Diablo II, and made it into Diablo III, if the trailers are any indication...

So how does an old man do that? Now, in the Diablo II D&D Campaign book that I have, Cain is a level 20 wizard (Peter was amusing regarding this... He claimed that Cain should have been able to rescue himself, as a level 20 wizard). But in the game, he doesn't appear to be any such thing. How did he manage to survive the first game?

And additionally, I've heard from a couple sources that all of the adventurers from the second game went insane from the trauma of fighting all the demons... Deckard Cain went through two near-apocalypses, so why, then, is he both alive and sane?

My only conclusion is that he is evil.

I need more sleep...
