Despite getting plenty of sleep last night, I am so very, very sleepy right now. Every year, I feel like I should get out and celebrate July 4th. I even considered going to a friend's cookout, but, as with many major holidays, the whole thing leaves me with a profound feeling of *shrug*. I'm so darn antisocial. I'm also really craving a cheeseburger, baked beans, and fries right now, though I suspect that's a psychological thing. If I'm still craving them in a few hours, I'll just go to Steak 'N Shake. Hey, I have coupons! ;)
Right now I'm watching
Undeclared. These DVDs must be messed up, because half the episodes have serious color problems -- everyone has blue skin and is wearing clothes in shades of orange. As for the show itself... I like it, but more in a critical way than an emotional level. It's one of those shows where I can enjoy and appreciate the talent and artistry, but I'm not really connecting with it. I think perhaps that's because I've been out of college for ten years, and while I can identify with the characters to a certain extent, I'm still too distanced from them and the setting. Same thing with Freaks and Geeks and many other shows. Or maybe I'm just getting old! Hell, yesterday I bought some Pond's Dramatic Results Age-Defying Facial Cleansing Towelettes, which promise to even tone and texture, while reducing appearance of lines and wrinkles. Yikes! I've had wrinkles for years, though they're more laugh-lines on my forehead and next to my mouth. My skin tone has always been uneven because, well, I have bad skin. (And I really need to add "dermatology appointment" to my to-do list.) I don't *think* my skin is showing Signs of Aging, but I suppose a bit of proactivity couldn't hurt.
(Okay, that paragraph veered quite a bit.)
Anyway! Recently
taeli posted .mp3s of The Flight of the Conchords' self-titled Radio 2 series, and she said I was welcome to upload them and spread the love. I started listening last night, and they're *awesome* -- especially poor Neil Finn's exasperated cameos when Brian (Murray on the TV show) calls each week for advice. If you know Crowded House, then this line is HILARIOUS: "Who better to ask about unnatural sexual practices than the man who wrote 'It's Only Natural': New Zealand's Paul Simon, and ex-Crowded House frontman, Neil Finn?" The radio show works better if you've seen the HBO series thus far, because it helps you really picture the characters -- Brian (Murray) really is the star, and Jemaine and Bret's very understated humor is best when you can put them together with their TV personae.
If you're unfamiliar with the show and/or don't have HBO, these are still a lot of fun. Hey, you can always download them to your iPod and listen on the morning commute, since they're the perfect 30-minute length. ;)
