Had a bit of a scare earlier! While hanging out with a friend, I tried a sip of the smoothie she'd brought with her. The package had said it was made with berries, but it turned out to have some banana in it. ( Me and my banana allergy. )
Hi, long termlurker (loved your BtVS fic) and ferociously ignoring pics (I'm in the UK, we're behind). I thought I should mention that many smoothies have bananas in, even if you can't taste it. They're there for the texture.
Most places around here make smoothies with bananas, but I've found quite a few banana-less mixes. One of my favorite shops has one with mixed berries, plus orange sherbet (gelato) for consistency. My friend's came from a frozen package you stick in the blender, and the picture on front didn't show bananas at all. Guess I should've checked the ingredients list. ;)
I am one of those who is allergic to fresh bananas but can eat cooked ones. Sorry to hear about your allergic reaction but I'm glad you were somewhere safe to recover.
Y'know, I've avoided bananas altogether since I developed the allergy. Trying some cooked ones might not be a bad idea -- who knows if I'm also allergic to them? Hmm.
You might have oral allergy syndrome and be able to eat them cooked. I'd give it a try with some Benedryl nearby. Do you have a latex allergy? Sometimes ppl who are allergic to bananas have that. You might want to ask your doctor to give you an epipen just in case. (I have food allergies :) )
Also, I friended you a while ago after seeing you on Polter Cow's flist. Mostly because you love Kara. Just thought I should let you know so you don't think I'm a stalker!

Allergies can be progessive. Always carry an epi-pen.
