I'm pretty excited about the Oscars tonight. Yeah, I'm a sucker for awards shows, but there's still plenty to like about 'em. As I said before, I absolutely LOVED The Artist, so I look forward to it winning everything, complete with fabulous speeches in French accents. The backlash is frustrating for how it makes me feel a bit guilty for liking the movie -- reminds me of Slumdog Millionaire, another favorite -- but I really don't think it's warranted aside from how the Weinsteins "pimped the movie and bought the award." Whatever. Any award-nominated movie those guys release is going to get the same complaints. In any case, The Artist is just a damned lovely movie, and nearly everyone I know who has actually seen it has loved it as much as I did. So there!
But the really exciting part for me is... CONCHORDS OSCAR! I can't wait to see Bret McKenzie accepting his speech, because you know he's gonna win for "Man or Muppet". (Not throwing shade at the other song, but c'mon, MoM is awesome.) Conchords love is definitely a great thing, and I've always been a Bret girl -- not only is he damned adorable, but I read that Jemaine wrote all the love songs like "Business Time", and Bret wrote all the whacked-out shit like "Petrov, Yelyena and Me" that I loooove. So, yay for Bret! (And if he doesn't win, I shall be heartbroken and rather embarrassed by this post!)
Oh, and I'm also looking forward to other little things, like fun acceptance speeches, awkward camera cutaways, Dean Pelton from Community winning adapted screenplay (Jim Rash co-wrote The Descendants), snarking about all the formalwear, and lots of previews of The Hunger Games. Yay!
