New TV!

Oh, I'm so glad to have new TV back again! Right now I'm watching Boardwalk Empire, which is surprisingly interesting even though it might as well have "Emmy Bait" in the opening credits. C'mon. HBO + Costume Drama + Scorsese + Big Splashy Production = Of course it's going to win every category for which it's eligible. I'll admit that I can get unfairly resentful of the whole HBO thing. Hopefully some of the other shows this season will stand a chance! (That said, I'm also pleased that Kelly Macdonald has the lead female role. She has done marvelous work since, but she will always be Diane to me. Damn, now I want to watch it again. I adore Danny Boyle.)

Anyway. I'm pretty ambivalent about the new TV season, though like I said, I'm thrilled just to have something new to watch. Yes, I am a hardcore TV junkie.

-- I watched the TiVo preview of Lone Star and liked it, but I want to see where it's going before I commit.

-- I would've skipped Hawaii Five-O altogether if not for the good buzz.

-- No Ordinary Family looks pretty meh, but I'll give it a shot. Same with My Generation.

-- Undercovers might turn out badly, but damn, those two leads are gorgeous. I'll tune in just for the eye candy.

-- I'm undecided about L&O:LA. I love the Law & Order universe, but I'm harboring a bit of a grudge (and am not beating down the door for yet another LA law show.)

-- Pity that Outsourced looks so dreadful and potentially offensive, since the original indie movie was kind of cute. I like Vulture's conspiracy theory that NBC scheduled it there for the upfronts knowing it would quickly fail, so they could sneak in Parks & Recreation (its ratings were too low to let them put it in the original upfronts presentation).

And that's it for the new shows. I always start the season with lots of optimism; pity that it rarely pans out. ;)
