Dan and I were awoken at 8:30 this morning by Oz having a seizure. At first I thought he was dreaming because his paws were "running" and he was making noise, then I realized it was something more serious. Dan and I rushed over to him and all we could do was watch. Dan stroked his side and I kept Sophia away from his face. She was trying to come up ( Read more... )

The vet says he's going to be fine. They don't know what caused it but aren't concerned because he is so young and healthy. They think it is just one of those things. Dan's dachshund had the same problem which might explain how Dan stayed so calm through it.

He is in my prayers. You are in my thoughts & prayers as always. I am so glad the Vet wasn't alarmed.

I'm not one of the "praying types" but I am a firm believer in well wishes and positive thoughts, so you guys are in my thoughts.

It was a new heart med and we mentioned that to the vet but he didn't think that is what caused it. We're going to keep on eye on Oz and if it happens again or something else happens we'll take him to my parents' dogs' vet on the east coast. We've been bringing our dogs to him for years so I really trust him. The vet here was really familiar with basset hounds so that made me feel confident in his diagnosis.

Thanks! You're right from what I've read online it is pretty common, I just haven't heard of them happening that often in basset hounds. The vet wasn't worried and thinks he'll be fine.
