and you're so right about the way the story is gendered -- with a female star, it would not only be squicky but cliched; this is much more interesting.
I think I told you before, about the Thanksgiving story, that it reminds me of F. Scott Fitzgerald's Hollywood stories. I really do think there's a "non-fannish" story in this scenario, if you ever feel the urge to write it.
