a bringer of jolity

9th August already??? Eeps.

Not a lot has happened lately. Except that I've now discovered that, since I'm officially claiming Jobseeker's Allowance now, I can get stuff for free. So I'm off to the opticians tomorrow, and at some point I'm going to book an appointment with the practice nurse at my doctor's so I can get a repeat perscription of my inhalers. Might as well, since I won't really be able to afford the £13 when they do run out. Or however much an eye test and new glasses are these days.

I'm hoping that, at the end of this month, a temporary job I've got my eye on will come to light and will be mine. It's working for Wakey council, doing Registration of Electors stuff. Sorting them out, typing, that sort of thing. Doesn't sound too hard really. It's for 6 weeks, possibly going up to 14, which would give me a job till about Christmastime. Plus I can apply for other council jobs in the meantime. I could really use the money at the moment, so I'm popping to the agency that told me about it tomorrow to get some more details and suchlike. Fingers crossed they'll let me do it. It may not pay a great deal, but it will get me some much needed experience and it will pay a lot more than I'm getting on the dole at the moment.

I've also decided to take up violin again, after 3 years of the thing gathering dust in my wardrobe. So it's all tuned up, and I've been attempting to play some stuff. So far I've managed Greensleeves and Fur Elise, but I'm still a bit rusty on reading music. Hopefully that will get better with practice. When I get a job, and some money, I think I'm going to buy a viola too, and start up on that again. I think it's partly because I've been listening to a lot of bands that have violins in them lately. That, and I always regretted giving up in the first place. So I'm getting a new viola, when I get a job. And an electric guitar. And a bass. I'm going to need my own house just to keep all this stuff in, haha.

This weekend, Mike and I are heading up to Glasgow for a few days. I turn 21 on Sunday, so it's by way of celebration. On Saturday night, loads of us are going to the Winchester. If anyone's in Glasgow and fancies popping along, please do. And on Sunday, there's about 8 of us going for an Indian at Mother India's, which I'm quite looking forward to. It's turning out to possibly be a birthday to remember. At least, I hope it will be.

And then, bank holiday weekend sees Mike and I heading to Swansea for a Bowlie meet-up, and the day after we're off to London for a Bowlie all-dayer. All this travelling is going to make me very skint and very tired, methinks. But it will all be worth it. And then, that Tuesday, this temporary job I mentioned before starts. So if I get that it would make this month absolutely fucking brilliant.

london, violin, jobs, swansea, free stuff, bowlie, glasgow
