Like l'amour. Just about as aggravating. Every bit as inexplicable.
Which is to say that my Alienware luggable officially went... what was the technical diagnosis? "Tits-up". Yes, that was the phrase.
sil has ordered the cable of magic IDE-ness, so hopefully we will be able to suck the data off. If that works, then we will see if we can put in a new motherboard and video card and limp it along for a bit. He is a very very nice man, and did tech support for hours uncomplainingly, and then let me borrow his computer. You will have to apply to him for details of what went wrong. It had to do with the heat sink. And maybe the video. And maybe the motherboard. But I don't understand why my good news/bad news then consisted of "I got it to boot, but only w/o the hard drive".
There were better weeks for this to have happened. That will always be true, but this one was especially bad. I only cried a little bit. And then sil let me borrow his computer so I got another couple hours of IronKey work in.
And this morning I headed in to my new MSFT contract. At 9:30, just as I was parking for a 10 AM meeting, I got a text telling me to come in at 11. blah. And had I brought a book? I had not. Because the novels that I ordered are in transit, and I have the poetry by my bedside. So instead I fixed my sad broken socks. I like the new boss, but either he is stretched super thin, or I don't know what. I've seen him for about 10 minutes. I had to call in helpdesk to get my PXE setup working, but it finally works, and I have most, but not all of the software I need installed. This sometimes required heroics. I got half an inch of sock done during my various installs. I hope tomorrow someone will tell me what I should be doing.
And in a fit of planning only my parents could come up with, instead of my dad watching the kids at our place for 90 minutes, he has carried them off to Mineral, so I can stay here, where there is a computer with Word and work. This is a good thing. But very characteristic.
Sil got good news from the doctor.
