Sorry guys, this is one of those soapbox issues with me (Internet, privacy and Reading Between the Lines) and I have to rant.
So I want to buy this doujinshi. The seller uses Paypal. I don't have an account and I sign up for one. I sign up for the account, put in my necessary credit card information, everything is going great. Except when I go to send money to the seller. That's when I learn I have a limit on my account of $0.00. What's this? This was never mentioned in any of the easy to read information and the privacy policy.
But it's okay! says Paypal. You merely have Verify your account with us. And by Verify we mean you only have 1 of 2 options: 1)Link up your bank account with us. Don't worry, it's safe! 2)Sign up for our PayPal credit card!
Fuck. That. Shit.
I try and see what if there is any other way to Lift the Limit on my account. Any FAQ question, explanation of what "Verify" and "Limit" are in the Handy and Easy Pop up definitions point out, over and over again, that the only way to Lift the Limit is to link your bank account to your PayPal account (or sign up for a credit card you don't need).
Then I see the "Help" icon. I click on it and search for "adding a credit card". Because it occurs to me that, due to what a friend has said, my credit card isn't really verified. Even though they had me enter it and "verified/confirmed" it right at sign ups. As I check the Help menu, I see instructions for exactly what I need.
Success! Only, wait.
I can confirm my credit card, but only by having PayPal charge me $1.50, having the verification code show up on my statement and then, only after I input the statement, will a refund be issued.
FAIL PAYPAL.
