Here Comes the Fall

Aug 23, 2017 09:18

Truth be told, the summer wasn't all that I thought it would be.  I decided, foolishly, at the end of June to run 10 days in a row, without break, to make up for running I hadn't done.  This served to injure my foot and disallow me to run for almost all of July.  So, physically, just not where I want to be.  I am finally almost fully healed, so I could theoretically start back.  However, it is now autumn, which means my schedule gets really tight.

How tight?  This will be the most condensed semester, probably, of my life.  My full time job will start as early as 6:30 am 3 days/week, and I have to come in and leave early in order to teach my two classes.  It's going to be tough, but it will be like the mantra from 2 years ago, "live through this".  All I have to do is pull through, for 15 weeks, and things are good.  Nothing even remotely as intense as this will populate the spring.

PhD.  Still waiting for word on my comps revisions.  I'm realizing I am nervous for no reason, as they will pass, but I still need to hear the words.  Once I get them, I am a "PhD candidate", which will be very nice.  I am thinking of springing for some business cards considering all of the conferences I go to, and the fact that I'll be in this state for about 2 years as I finish my degree.  It looks like I am online to finish this all up in May of 2019, with a defense a few months earlier than that.  It will take a lot of work and writing, but it can be done.

Additionally, I have conferences aplenty coming up this fall.  I have NWSA and MAPACA, both in November.  I'm excited about both.  I have to do my proposals for 3 spring conferences, but honestly, I will probably only go to two.  I have two pieces of academic writing out for review, and I am waiting for revisions on those.  Pretty exciting in terms of my doctorate, TBH.

School.  Talked about it, but I am teaching three classes, two evening and one morning.  I haven't taught a morning class in nearly 4 years, and I haven't taught this class (an intro class) in that same time period.  This will be interesting.  It will be like I said, rough.  But I can get through it.

Work.  Keeps me busy. Keeps me paid. Nuff said.

Other.  I will be going on a series of trips over the next nine months, including Texas, Florida, Oregon, Minnesota, Ohio, and North Carolina.  Lots of flights.  Oh hey, frequent flyer miles!
