The summer has being going apace. I'm a bit bummed because I had to do revisions on one of my comps questions and I didn't get any classes for the summer, but it has been nice to have all the free time. In June and May I got to run - a lot. I injured my foot at the beginning of July, so I haven't been running this month, but plan on starting again August 1st. I've been doing the rowing machine - not as much as I should, but at least 3 times a week. I admit a lot of my motivation is gone now that Pact, the app that used to keep me honest, is gone. I need to find a new one.
I did the Doctoral Seminar in June and it was a great time. I learned a lot about the concept of resilience and will be using that in my dissertation. I met a couple of people whose work meshes well with mine.
I turned in an abstract of the Mid Atlantic Popular Culture Association conference and it was accepted! I am doing a panel with my colleages Jessica and David. Really excited about the opportunity.
I also am going to be preparing my poster for the National Women's Studies Association conference in November. Paid my registration and I'm all set.
I'm at the point where I have a lot of irons in the fire...lol...again:
- My comps revisions are due July 31st. I have added everything I am going to, so now it is just about tightening up.
- I pitched an article idea to the journal Analog Game Studies. They loved it. My draft of my academic article is due mid-August
- I pitched another idea to a Men's magazine on 'derp masculinity'. They loved that too. It's also due mid-August
-speaking of mid-August, going to Portland - flying out the 12th
- September is Austin TX - flying out the 15th
- I pitched another idea for a book chapter for an academi book written by Michael Kimmel; they like the preliminary idea; will find out in mid-August if they want it
- I applied for the Object Lessons workshop in late November; will find out in the next 10 days if I was accepted
- I will be putting together an abstract for the American Men's Studies Association in March
- I am hoping to defend my dissertation proposal in December
Yeah...lots.
