hates software

I know I've complained about dodgy software updates from Atari, EA, etc, but at least it's not just games that have shit patches..
The Global Mars Surveyor looks like it was broken by a bad patch too.

"The upgrade was supposed to improve that craft's flight processors, but instead, it seems to have instructed the craft to turn one of its cooling radiators towards the sun. Over time, this has overheated the battery, forcing the Global Surveyor into safe mode."

How do radiators work in a vacuum?? I thought that vacuum was a great insulator (hence, keeping coffee in vacuum flasks), as the heat can't transfer into anything. Wouldn't you want to try and emit the heat energy in some other way, eg. convert it back into electricity, or radiate it as photons? I don't know enough about physics in space though, obviously.

space, software, patches
