Doctor Who on the Sci Fi Channel !

Jan 12, 2006 16:22

Thanks to a post in new_who, I just saw this press release from the BBC regarding a deal to air the recent first series of the "new" Doctor Who on the Sci Fi Channel staring in March 2006. Yay!!! I honestly didn't think it would ever make it to U.S. television.

My only question though is...will the episodes be cut to fit into our standard time slots (I'm thinking yes), because each episode is longer than the 42-43 minutes that U.S. programming gets to fit in the commercial breaks. That's a lot of characterization that will fall by the wayside, as it does on BBC America.

ETA: Can I be crushed at the same time? I just read the press release more closely and saw this: "In addition, BBC Video has moved the US release date of the DVD from February 2006 to July 4, 2006 to capitalize on the exposure from the TV broadcast." *cries*
