Keyword: Spiral Stair; made by fooish_icons
This is an example of something I started doing long ago: I give certain icons a generic name because I know I will always want an icon of that sort. In this case, this is, I think, the third or fourth incarnation of "Spiral Stair" - I have always loved them, and so I change them periodically when I feel like I need a new one, but it's a kind of icon that I always want to have. Why? I suppose just because it makes me think of possibilities - of what lies just ahead or above or around the bend. There is mystery in a spiral stair.

Very simply, I couldn't NOT have a LotR icon - it's one of my favorite books and film series, and this is still my favorite LotR icon, partly because it is a simple image, and yet one that holds so much promise: an ancient pact to help when the signal fires were lit, and that coupled with the words always remind me that no matter how dark things can get, there is always a glimmer of light: which sums up a lot of what LotR means to me: it's a story of hope, and of good people who struggled against nearly impossible odds and didn't give up just because it was hard.

I made this icon because I love prayer wheels and how there is something important connected between a prayer and the tactile motion of turning the wheel. I like this icon for how it represents spirituality, but I use it for all kinds of things - and only rarely related to spiritual matters. :) Just because I love it.
Keyword: Farscape - Always; made by wav
wav makes gorgeous icons, and her Farscape icons are among my most favorites! When I saw this icon in one of her batches, I asked her to customize the text for me, because the relationship that grows between Pilot and Aeryn Sun is one of my favorite relationships in the series. Aeryn Sun begins as a rather bigoted Peacekeeper soldier who believes that most other species are inferior, but later, an understanding develops between them that is truly beautiful. In humans, I love it when people break out of their prejudices and bigotry to embrace ideas and people that perhaps they didn't always understand or appreciate. So for me, Aeryn & Pilot's deep abiding affection for one another, and especially the forgiveness they extend, reminds me always that love is love, and that we can all support each other, even through the worst things.

This icon just makes me smile! I like to use it when I'm feeling a bit stupid, or when things don't make sense to me. :) And Ron's line in the book is hilarious! [for the non-Harry Potter fans, "accio" is the magical command to cause something to come to you, such as a paper lying on a table, or in Ron's case, a tank full of brains. Of course, the pictured individual is Dumbledore from Goblet of Fire as he is doing something quite different, but it's a humorous juxtaposition]

The Last of the Mohicans is one of my favorite movies, so of course I have to have an icon from it - I always, always freak out during this scene in the film, so even though it represents a particularly violent and frightening moment, it brings the visceral emotions of the scene back to me quite vividly. I save it only for comments of distress, or when I'm discussing LotM.

This icon charmed from the moment I laid eyes on it by its representation of the Hogwarts houses through fruit and dessert. I use it pretty generically for Harry Potter posts/comments, and also sometimes when I'm talking about food - just because it's so pretty and somehow comforting. :)
