Some odds and ends

I don't know why, but this old favorite song (by my other fave band), just popped into my head - the bolded lines in particular:

"Vital Signs" by Rush (lyrics by Neil Peart)

Unstable condition,
A symptom of life
In mental and environmental change.
Atmospheric disturbance,
The feverish flux
Of human interface and interchange.

The impulse is pure;
Sometimes our circuits get shorted
By external interference.
Signals get crossed
And the balance distorted
By internal incoherence.

A tired mind become a shape-shifter,
Everybody need a mood lifter,
Everybody need reverse polarity.
Everybody got mixed feelings
About the function and the form.
Everybody got to deviate from the norm.

An ounce of perception,
A pound of obscure.
Process information at half speed.
Pause, rewind, replay,
Warm memory chip,
Random sample, hold the one you need.

Leave out the fiction,
The fact is, this friction
Will only be worn by persistence.
Leave out conditions,
Courageous convictions
Will drag the dream into existence.

A tired mind become a shape-shifter,
Everybody need a soft filter,
Everybody need reverse polarity.
Everybody got mixed feelings
About the function and the form.
Everybody got to elevate from the norm...

  • Seen last night: a family of geese by a small pond outside a metro station. 2 adult geese and four still-fuzzy goslings. SO CUTE!! And then further on, we saw the cutest little brownish-grey rabbit.

  • Dinner with friends was so delicious and fun. First course: spaghetti carbonara (aka heart-attack-on-a-plate, but oh, so worth it); second course: roasted chicken, followed by two kinds of salad, and a homemade apple cherry tart. My friends are fabulous cooks!

  • How come I haven't heard more people squee over this? According to Tokyograph,'LIAR GAME' drama gets 3-hour finale
    Tue, May 29, 2007 (4:25pm EDT)
Fuji TV's "LIAR GAME" drama series is getting an extended final episode. On June 23, instead of running in its regular 11:10-11:55 time slot, the program will air from 9:00 to 11:55.

This is a first for a drama series. There have been many cases where a final episode is extended (generally by 15 minutes) or a series gets a later special episode, but no serialized drama has ever had a finale extended to 3 hours.

"LIAR GAME" has attracted decent ratings and has become very popular among young viewers. In an Oricon survey early in the season, it had the second-highest viewer satisfaction rating behind "Kaette Kita Jikou Keisatsu."

Actor Kinya Kitaoji will make a guest appearance in the final episode as Hasegawa, the head of the "game."
Yay! This is really great news. :)

  • Yesterday I was thinking about "comfort music," particularly albums that I can listen to any time and they're just comforting. That doesn't mean that they're feel-good at all, just that something in them provides solace of one kind or another. A few of mine, off the top of my head, and entirely non-comprehensive:

    Marbles - Marillion
    O - Damien Rice
Operation: Mindcrime & Rage for Order - Queensryche
    Opaline - Dishwalla
Gran Hotel Buenos Aires - Federico Aubele
    Garden State OST
Back to Bedlam - James Blunt
    House of Flying Daggers OST
    Best of KAT-TUN - KAT-TUN
    Good Luck! OST
The Distance to Here - +Live+
The Last of the Mohicans OST
    Achtung Baby - U2
La Descrizione di un Attimo - Tiromancino
    The Nutcracker - Tchaikovsky
    Romeo & Juliet - Prokofiev
    Satyagraha - Philip Glass
    Carmina Burana - Orff
Fumbling Towards Ecstasy - Sarah McLachlan
    Metallica's Black album
    Kissing Jessica Stein OST
    Phobia - Breaking Benjamin
The Mask & Mirror - Loreena McKennitt
    The American - Angie Aparo
    The Tango Lesson OST
    Comalies - Lacuna Coil
    The Invitation - Thirteen Senses
Hark! The Village Wait - Steeleye Span
Proterra - Runrig with Paul Mounsey
Green Linnet 20th Anniversary Collection (celtic)
Friction, Baby and How Does Your Garden Grow? - Better Than Ezra

Anyone care to share your "comfort albums?" Or am I the only one who actually still listens to albums anymore? I know, I'm a bit old-fashioned that way. I listen to song mixes, too, but I don't think I'll ever get out of the habit of listening to albums...

To end this collection of random:

Jdrama post will come soon, promise (I have comments and picspams stored up!) and there is nothing like an amazing cup of coffee, FTW! Clearly, today is definitely a better day. *smile*
