A.K.A. My 'Coming out of the JE Closet' post

Hee, I've been scribbling this off and on for a few days, primarily for my own amusement, because I AM amused. Both at myself and by this whole new world of entertainment I've fallen into. :D

Yes, this post is probably ONLY of interest to about ONE person on my flist...catdecember...but perhaps some of the SMAP fans and Kimura people might find something amusing in it as well, since SMAP does enter into this minorly as the standard-bearer and most popular product of Johnny's & Associates or often commonly known as Johnny's Entertainment (JE) company.

From here:Johnny's Jimusho is a talent agency that was established by Kitagawa Johnny and his sister Mary back in the early 60's. It has dominated the Japanese boy band market ever since. Just about all the top male groups on Japanese television today are members of this stable. Most of them not only dominated the music industry, they are also known for appearing everywhere from doramas to TV commercials.

Johnny's Jr. consists of young boys, probably around early teens, being "trained" to sing and dance. When they reach a certain age they move on to debut as part of a group, duo, trio or even solo. Most "juniors-in-training" end up being back up dancers for their seniors who already debuted. The Juniors are divided into groups with leaders. Takizawa Hideaki, Imai Tsubasa and Kimura Takuya are some examples of past Johnny's Jr. leaders.
SMAP is probably the most widely-popular and enduring of the JE groups.

Heh, I've learned a lot in the last few months. ;P

ETA: [2006.08.23] I wrote these when I was still fairly new...so please take that into consideration! I understand a lot more about Japanese entertainment, Johnny's, fanservice, shounen ai, yaoi, etc. now than I did when I wrote these posts.

Part 1: Introduction to JE

KAT-TUN Picspam #1 (promos & Kaizokuban caps)

Part 2: Boys in skirts and yaoi

KAT-TUN Picspam #2 (more Kaizokuban caps)

Part 3: Boys in Flight! Summary 2004 (feat. KAT-TUN & NEWS) picspam with video links

NOTE: I would have liked to include costume images from many of the Shounen Club performances but the quality of the caps was horrible (poor-quality source). Instead, I've capped only the Kaizokuban and Summary performances because the source quality was a bit higher, although still not as good as I would have liked.
