In fact, when he glanced in the mirror, he almost half-believed that a stranger was looking back at him. A stranger whose arm moved at the exact same time and whose facial expressions reflected perfectly- shock, disbelief and utter confusion.
Oh. Curses. Not as an exclamation, but literally- he was cursed.
As of now, Edmund Pevensie was approximately twenty five years of age.
He ran out to the porch, surprised at how much stronger and faster this body is, searching for the others and yet hoping that he doesn't scrape his head on the ceiling or break anything that Su would have to berate him for.
...These curses did wear off in time, right? As much as Ed missed the golden age of Narnia, he wasn't quite ready to be thrust into adulthood yet.

Sighing, having found his way back to the house, he frowned upon seeing a person there who looked nothing like the only other male who was supposed to be in or at this humble abode. Eyes narrowed, he approached, trying to stand as tall as possible, wondering what this person wanted and who they could possibly be. Maybe they were lost? They did seem to have that potential.
"Hello...?"
It was as good a start as any.

"Peter?" the smile on Edmund's face couldn't help but break through, despite the insanity of all of this. That horrible haircut brought back memories indeed.
But if this were that Peter, from that period of time- perhaps it was best not to reveal his identity. His brother definitely didn't seem to recognize him anyways.
"Oh. Hello." he says blankly, wondering why this has to be so awkward, and trying to find an appropriate excuse as to why he's here that would make sense to Peter.

Shifting slightly, he added with an expression he hoped was confident enough to be convincing, "We're handling it just fine, you know." That was of course assuming his first question was on the mark, but either way it was the truth. They had it well enough in hand and didn't need some random other person's help.

"Yes. Helen asked me to come here." hopefully the name-drop would add some credibility to his story. Edmund paused, wondering if he would be believed or if the perpetually obstinate Peter would kick him out. "I'm your uncle." he added, keeping a conversational tone of voice.
Don't be suspicious, don't be suspicious, don't be suspicious.

Something to think about later maybe, or not.
"I don't remember you," he said honestly, his look as dubious as his voice, brow furrowing as he peered up at this brunette. He did seem a bit familiar the more Peter looked at him, but maybe that was just wanting to give him the benefit of the doubt.

"I was in the war for a bit." Ed wasn't sure why he was throwing that detail out, but part of him thought that perhaps Peter might soften at that, seeing as his own father was fighting as well. "But I've come back, just for now."

"I don't buy it," he decided, hand running over his mouth before he rubbed his chin, as if in thought, but actually just as an action because he felt fidgety. "But I have no idea who you are and so there's no real sense in you lying."
And there, a conundrum of sorts.

Edmund sighed, shoving his hands in his pockets for now. "You wouldn't remember me, like I said. But it's fine. I don't expect you to buy it."
Time to change the subject.
"How are the others, Peter? Lucy, Edmund and...Susan were their names, right?" it was better to act as if he was trying very hard to remember them. Hopefully none of them came outside and recognized him.
He had no idea what that would do to Peter.

"Well enough," he said even as a stray thought happened across him, unbidden: I wonder how dad is. Still rather blatantly staring at the dark haired man, Peter continued to try to figure out what was feeling familiar about him, or what was masquerading as familiar--either or. If he was not actually his uncle--and he isn't, Peter thought mildly annoyed--but still seemed to not be a complete stranger, what did that mean? Where had he seen him before?
Sighing when nothing occurred to him, he settled for a frown that was not quite as severe as it had been before.

There was a silence after Peter's curt reply, as Edmund had nothing to say to that. But part of him wondered why Peter was not assaulting him with questions about their father as Edmund probably would have. Then again, Peter had never hero-worshipped their father with the same starry-eyed intensity that Edmund had.
Maybe he could offer him hope.
"Your father's fine." Edmund says this softly, the flicker of sadness not showing on his face- but the conscious observer might have seen it in his eyes.
He'd offer Peter more than he'd had, at least.

Of course Peter would react badly to that. Edmund keeps on expecting his Peter, from his time, and expects the reactions to be appropriate to that.
He messed up, plain and simple.
"Well, if you're doing okay, then..." he trails off rather pathetically, giving a shrug and turning to leave.

"You...can come in. It's too cold outside." He would, if this person did come in, give him a long list of what-you-absolutely-are-not-allowed-to-do. Older or not that didn't change that Peter was supposed to be the one taking care of people here and he sighed, glancing backward. The others were likely in their rooms or something and if this person stayed downstairs, in the study maybe, that might be acceptable. He had come all the way out here, Peter noted fairly, and maybe that lent a bit of credibility to something of his story, more so than the names because actions being greater than words certainly applied here...or so Peter figured.
Almost he wondered what his parents would do but the wondering died quickly to be replaced with something else that didn't really fit in a category on its own anyway.

"Thanks." part of Edmund's relieved, he won't lie. He had been expecting to find his way to the City somehow and carry on from there. Which would be fine except for the fact that he barely knew his way around there to begin with.
No doubt Peter would try to enforce some rules on him. Some things never change.

"Wait, what's your name? And don't lie."
Not that he'd completely know either way but it was worth throwing the order out there.
