Rose Weasley did not bother to hide her disappointment upon seeing that the library's only other occupant, on a Saturday morning, was Scorpius Malfoy.
He glanced up at her briefly but she walked pass without a word. Her fake smiles and forced out "hellos" were reserved for when Albus was in the room. But even without her cousin's presence, she could still hear him nagging at her.
"Just give him a chance, Rosie. He really isn't as bad as he seems."
Rose gave a soft snort. She'll believe that when she actually saw some good in Scorpius Malfoy.
Placing her bag on one of the tables, she made her way towards the shelves that held the books on Transfiguration. Her professor had assigned an essay, and although it was not due for another week and a half, she always liked getting a head start.
After a few moments of browsing the titles, Rose managed to catch sight of the book she needed on one of the high shelves. She reached for her wand but stopped midway.
"You shouldn't rely on magic for everything, dear."
First her cousin, now her mother.
Sighing, she redirected her hand upwards and she stood on the tip of her toes as she tried to reach for the book. She only managed to graze the spine before her feet tired and she was back standing on her heels.
Rose was not known to give up easily, and with a huff she gave it another go. Just as she outstretched her hand, another hovered over hers and easily grabbed the book.
Grateful for the assistance, she turned her head to thank the person and was startled to see Scorpius Malfoy. She fell back slightly into him and his free hand took hold of her hip to steady her. Her backside was pressed against his chest.
She immediately felt the heat of his body and the warmth of his breath breathing on her. The sensation was not, in any way, unpleasant.
Surprised by this, she turned her head and found his face an inch or two from her own. His gray eyes were staring at her. She blushed.
Her head seemed incapable of forming a single coherent thought, and her heart began to race. This was not good.
Out of panic, she diverted her gaze and took notice of the book in his hand.
"Oh," she breathed out, analyzing the situation. He had helped her. Maybe he really wasn't all that bad. She stepped out of his embrace.
"Thank y-," she started, reaching for the book.
However, Scorpius pulled his hand back. "Ah, just the book I was looking for."
Wait, what?
He gave her smirk and walked away.
Rose just gaped after him, trying to wrap her mind around what had just occurred.
Why that sneaky little snake!
Her anger flared as she started storming after him. There was just no way she could ever like Scorpius Malfoy.
It was impossible.
