Alright, enough ignoring this journal for the week! I'm going to write, goddamn it! I've been sick the last week, so feeling rather blah. Anyhow, where to start...First with what I've been reading, I think.
I finished the first book of
The Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor, I believe it's set to be a trilogy, the second book,
Seeing Redd, is already out. It's a YA book retelling the Alice in Wonderland adventures, painting Lewis Carroll as the guy who got it all wrong, and Alyss Hart, a young girl lost in the 'real world', a honest to bejeebus princess from the wonderland world. It's a fairly solid book if you're a fan of Alice in Wonderland...Which I am, a lot. More than a few by a bunch, in other words. It's gotten mixed reviews, but I honestly did quite enjoy it, maybe because I can accept a pretty liberal 'retelling'. I was a little disappointed that it didn't follow the story more closely, but I thought the story was interesting enough to give it merit, so I'll likely get the next one and read on. I'd give it a solid B, I think. Plus...The Hatter was just baddass.
I'm now reading
American Psycho by Bret Ellis, about 150 pages in, and I've been extremely entertained by it so far. I love How slow building it really is, you just get these small flashes for awhile that he's entirely insane. He'll mention that he had to take down a batch of bloody sheets down to the laundromat for cleaning like some people mention having to go to the store to pick up an extra loaf of bread, and there's an Entire short chapter devoted to how great Genius is. So, I'm pretty much in love with this book, but it is a hard read, I'm just getting to the point to where he's actually describing what he does, you see him in the act of it instead of mentioning it off handedly, and it's gruesome. But I just can't get over how the writing is...I love it. So, I Might have a hard time getting through some parts, but I'm pretty used to horror, still, what I read so far made me a little queasy. And then I went back to eating my lunch. *shrugs*
I've also been playing around with several games, a few web based ones and a few on console. I discovered
Forumwarz while listening to the 1UP Yours podcast, which is basically a silly little turn based game about 'pwning' forums that I find amusing when I want something to click on mindlessly. Some of the jokes are pretty good, especially when you're 'chatting' with characters, but it's a little repetitive. I play the character class 'Emo kid' and use a name I had way back in the day, when I was an emo kid, because I can laugh at myself. And then cry. So much. Anyhow, Kade pointed me to another web game, a Very turn based game called
Urban Dead, where you play a survivor (or a zombie!) trying to survive zombies (or humans!). I'm never good at these types of games, and you have to wait quite awhile after you run out of action points, so I'm not sure how much I'll play it...But I'll give it a shot. One thing I'm a little pissed about is the fact that though I'm a police woman, it seems like my punches miss a Lot. Again, more than a few, by a bunch. And though I'm trained in firearms, my bullets only take a whooping 5 points on a zombie who has 50 points of health...So now I'm out of bullets, and throwing my arms around like my wrists are broken and I'm farsighted. It's Kind of ridiculous. But...Perhaps I'll gain 100xp points somehow and I can train in something else.
I started up
Final Fantasy X-2 again for the umpteenth time because I woke up this morning with terrible cramps, so naturally I thought, 'I know what I need! MORE GIRL THINGS! Because I so love being a girl right now!' >=-[ I'm pretty sure that wasn't my train of thought, but that's the only reason that comes to mind. I honestly do secretly like that game...I should really finish it. Someday. Like the rest of my games. *sigh* And then Kade brought home
No More Heroes, which is also incredibly campy and a bunch of fanservice. So therefore, my day, maybe even my life, was completed. From what I've played of it, No More Heroes is fun, and pretty funny, so I enjoy it, though I wasn't going to go out of my way to get it. Still, I'm hoping the more people buy it the more Nintendo will get it through their head that people actually Want to play games with a lot of blood, and maybe even mature themes (ohnoez!), on the Wii.
Annndd....that's it, I think.
Edit: Oh wait...Not so much. I wanted to share this, because it's extremely beautiful. I saw it awhile ago, I can't remember when...I May have seen it on another friends journal, but I really liked it a lot.

Also, I found clips of old Batman episodes that I found hugely, inappropriately funny, made by
these fellows. NWS for...a lot of reasons. But win for using the CSI: Miami theme.
